Shop The CourtyardI think it’s great, my cat doesn’t make much of a mess as much as he used to with his old litter box since he like to push it around and would get it EVERYWHERE, but only just a couple litter falling out as soon as he gets out. Which is no biggy I just have to sweep a couple times. I like how steep the litter box is just to give him some room to dig and move the litter around. It’s easy to clean up, all you have to do is grab the top and can clean and change the litter easily. Also the planter part is sooo cute but I will say the moss became an issue since my cat figured out he can grab it so I had to put glue over the moss so they can all stick together which helped. Other than that love my purchase!
There are some cosmetic imperfections (color swirls visible and raised edge at seam). Seems sturdy.
I was confused about reviewers who said putting the top back on is difficult, so I’ll explain: the lower rim is narrow and flexible so it moves around a bit and doesn’t line up if you just set the top on. Instead, you must line up the edges of the opening and work backwards from there. Can be tricky, but not hard.
The “moss” is a bit messy and the faux plants not the highest quality, but it’s the best looking (& most expensive) cat box I’ve ever owned.
Our 8 week old kittens took right to it (I left the lid off and put a box as a step for the first few days; now the lid is back on and they don’t need the step). The opening is wide enough to reach in and scoop without removing the top. I paired with the 3 pack of reusable liners (kittens are boys, so I wanted extra coverage).
It’s larger than I thought it’d be so the kitty boys will fit as adults and I think the quality will hold up too. Would recommend for homes that, like ours, have no spots to hide a litter box.
Ilike the fact that is very convenient instead of using the litter boxes. Since, they just arrived, I have the opening towards the front, so that they know. I plan to turn the opening to the side where it would be less noticeable. I purchased 2, since I have 4 cats. I ordered another furniture style for my bedroom, where I also have another litter box. I still have a small litter box in the kitchen.
As information, as other reviewers have mentioned, the top is not easy to put on. You might get frustrated, but you can still put it on. I did get frustrated, but with some patience, you can accomplish it. One of the planters was easier than the other. To move, you should drag it or lift it from the bottom. The size is perfect as a litter box. I would clean it with just the shovel without removing lid because of the hassle of having to put back on. I would remove the lid only when it's time to wash the whole thing. You can also use a liner to avoid this problem. I purchased them on sale for $60, which at that price range it was perfect.
Overall, I'd say it's esthetically much better. Therefore, I would purchase again and recommend.
My cat tried to mark her territory after we moved, and I got really tired of cleaning her mess in one particular spot. I decided to give this a try because it would completely hide her litter. I'm happy to say that it works! It's easy to clean and simple to use!
This thing blends perfectly into my decor. I bought a few extra faux dangling plants from michaels to add to base of the included plant and I think it looks great. Like other reviews said this thing is big enough for the fat cats. I have a new kitten and he can get in it. I appreciate that It's deep enough that litter won't spill out everywhere when they cover up their deposits. I wanted something inside my little closet besides an ugly enclosed litter box. I see what people say about being kind of a pain to line up but I just did the right and left corners at the same time and then pushed the back into position. It doesn't stay all that great if your moving it around it will easily pop out but I think I little piece of gorilla tape in the back will sure it up and provide extra reinforcement. I'm willing to deal with it for the look of it. Oh and a tip on installing the moss...spread it a bit make a hole in the center and then pop the plant through the hole and into the top of the holder. Overall, Esthetically pleasing, no spill, quality plastic, plant doesn't look to cheap or super fake, leaves come in different shades of green to give the illusion of new growth, my kitten used immediately when I put him in it.
I got 2 different hidden plant litter boxes, this one and a different brand. This brand is actually the less expensive one, and I think I prefer this one more. The plant pot is decently realistic looking with a well hidden seam, the sides appear high enough to avoid accidental urine getting in the seam or leaking out when my female cats use the litter box (don’t know if male cats are different). It’s lightweight, some people called it flimsy but I disagree. It’s the perfect weight for something like this, easier to take care of and clean. I love the brown color “pot”. Since I have 2 cats, 3 litter boxes is recommended and what I’ve always provided for them. I swapped out 2 so far for these planter litter boxes, I will get the third replacement from this brand as well. One of my cats is huge and she fits well in the planter style boxes. I put the slightly used litter from their old litter box directly into the new planter box to make the transition smoother and easier to identify for them, but they were interested immediately so that may not even have been necessary, but doesn’t hurt to be careful when you make changes with cats litter boxes.
Pictured: this box vs other brand planter, this box vs regular covered box & one photo with the door turned a different direction to show how well it can be “hidden”
I'm going to give this review 5 stars even though I didn't get everything as advertised. It did not come with "Real Florist Moss." I'm sure. I checked everything carefully! We got the planter litter box- top & bottom, the filter, and the faux plant. That's it. I decided not to complain about it, complaining is exhausting! I happened to hit up a tag sale on the same weekend and found clear pebbles for .34 cents! Can't beat that. I like the pebbles. I'm including pics and a little video of Remy inspecting her brand new potty on day one. Needless to say, she approved right away and we haven't had any issues (I waited a bit before reviewing). Has she messed with a plant, itself? Sure. She's a cat! Cats are mischievous! Cats love to play! But after a heart to heart (I yelled), she stopped. Seriously, the shine of the leafy plant wore off on its' own.
Overall, it's a pretty cool litter box. I love that it doesn't look like what it is. We keep it in the corner of our mudroom. It's sturdy. Yes, it does require a bit of lining up when replacing the top. So what? I like a challenge. lol ...
This litter box is more than roomy enough for an adult cat (even two!), and I think the filter helps. I really don't smell it when I walk by. I recommend this to anyone who doesn't mind paying a bit extra, wanting to hide a litter box ... but doesn't want to go crazy paying for one that's hidden in another type of furniture (like those in a bench).
I've had wooden litter enclosures for a few years now. I started noticing that no matter how much I changed the litter, I think the urine smell was absorbing into the wood. So it was time to look at a different option or replace. I came across this option which I’ve seen before and thought it might look cheesy but honestly, I figured why not try it I could always return it. It arrived (in a day!) and I was very impressed with the pot. It is textured and freckled so it doesn’t look like cheap plastic. The plant was surprisingly easy to manipulate as every part of it has wires so that you can make it look natural. There is only one negative and it's that the top is a little hard to sit back onto the bottom easily. It takes a few tries to line it up perfectly. I wish it was designed to click in. Other than that, this is spacious enough to fit two cats at once if they wanted! Just to give perspective. It is larger than a standard box and it fits perfectly in the space! I put two things of litter in there to give it some some substantial padding for them. I noticed my other cat started sneaking into the other cat's territory to use this plant litter box...so I ordered another one so that they could match! Also, if you have a dog that likes to sneak treats from litter boxes like mine 🤦 this is a great option because you can rotate it to be against a corner or wall, and the dog can’t access it.
Couldn’t even tell it was a litter box. I love it
Doubles as really nice corner decor. My cat immediately took to it. I changed mine up to suit my decor and it was SUPER easy to do. Hope these notes help...
* The top will stay on and it's sturdy. I saw someone's video of their struggle to get the top "latched" which made me a bit nervous. It took me a bit to find, but there is a tiny divet/track around the inner part of the lid. If you place one end of the track onto the base, you can slide the rest of the top securely into place. You don't have to place it perfectly right away either, as the top will slide around to allow you to align the door opening. Hope that makes sense.
* I ordered the same watering pan and litter liners that the most popular commenter suggested. There is a taller one and a more shallow one to choose from. CHOOSE THE SHALLOW ONE. I see other people complaining that it covers the opening and their cat can't get in. They mistakenly ordered the deeper pan.
* I ordered the tan litter box, but it looks a little more gray in pics. It's definitely a neutral tan. I thought I would end up spray painting it as others have, but it's actually a really nice neutral tone so I'll leave it tan. Note that the whole thing is flexible, so spray paint is probably the only type of paint you could get away with. If you're going to try a faux ceramic DIY or anything like that, it might crumble when you remove the top later to change the litter, etc.
* I knew the provided plant wouldn't be my vibe, (also it was super wispy so my cat, Jim, would NOT leave it alone) so I ordered a different, less wispy, faux plant to swap out. The plant I ordered had to be chiseled out of the base but the stem was essentially the same so it just plugs into place.
* My cat also loved pulling the provided grass out of the planter, so I purchased some small white pebbles and some thin, watery gorilla glue. I mixed small batches of the pebbles with dollops of clear glue (just enought to coat evenly and not run everywhere) and layered them onto the provided foam insulation ring. There are still tiny gaps for air to escape on top.
Looks great. Hides box fairly well. Closed box provides more privacy and (feeling of) protection for the cat(s). Easy to clean.
WAY better than the wood furniture enclosures which still need a litter pan. Litter and occasional pee would still get outside of the pan and start to destroy the enclosure base, eventually leaking pee onto the floor underneath. I used those for years and this enclosure is far superior.
Suggestions:
- Replace silly paper stuff provided with some polished rocks. It totally makes it look fancy.
- To clean the fake plant of top, take it off and rince it in the sink or with a hose outside. Cleans well and is quick.
- If the colors available don't work with your space, spray paint the outside (not the inside, since cats scratch at the walls to "bury" their business.
Large capacity plastic litter box. Blends in with decor and other plants. Keeps litter contained while they fling it around. Works well and good height for young, healthy cats. Easy to assemble!
I've literally never written an Amazon review in my life, but I felt like this was a necessary item to review! Basically, if you're thinking about ordering this litter box, DO IT! My house is a small 1000 sqft home that's obviously low on living space, let alone a designated area for a hideous cat litter box. This hidden cat litter box has been an absolute answer to my prayers! I turn the litter so that the entrance is completely unnoticeable and guests have been floored when I tell them that it's actually the litter box! Now I do have to admit, the original color that it came in is ugly as sin and matches nothing in my house, but that's nothing a little spray paint can't fix! Also, I was not willing to dump the cat litter directly into this litter box because I hate how gross the litter boxes get - I'm a huge clean freak. So I did some research on Amazon to find a round basin (much like what they use on farms to put animal feed in) and I happened to find one that fits absolutely perfectly inside this hidden litter box! The name of the basin I ordered through Amazon is the Vrinda® Plastic Economy Round Basin (18 Inch) .. make sure you get the 18 inch basin (it's the red one and if I remember correctly, its only about $20) because there's more than one size choice for this product, and the hidden litter box is like 18.5 inches in diameter, so the 18 inch fits very well! Then I just put one of those litter bags (like a garbage bag but sized for cat litter) in the basin, tuck it over the edges, tie it tight around the outside and then fill it with litter! Ill never use a regular old litter box ever again in my life!! The cats took to this new litter box immediately and we haven't looked back since!! AMEN!
Seldom are products better than you expect. I thought:
1) it’d be bigger... I wanted my baby to have space but, I didn’t want anything to over dramatic, because I mean, it’s nice AND super practical... but you CAN tell it didn’t come from Pier I Imports.
2) it’d be heavier. So I imagined it a bit of a task to uncover and change 2x daily, (recovering from bone marrow transplant. Just making my bed feels like climbing a mountain) my personal, preferential litter clearing schedule.
3) it might scare my cat, which had been used to an open, blue litter “tray” since he was a kitten.
Well:
1) it’s somehow the PERFECT size. Smaller than appears in pictures, but pleasantly so. NOT to small for regular HS cats; comfortable for them in fact... but not overwhelming as an “alternative” decoration in almost any design setting. DEF better than a small, blue, ashy tray.
I plan to go to Michael’s and get some more realistic leaves and extra moss. I’ll bring up its perceived market value in a minute. Anyone can.
2) Seriously, after my BM transplant, just coming up 3 flights of stairs makes me stop and have to take a breath when I reach the top. I was concerned I couldn’t handle this thing. Well, it’s MAYBE 6-8lbs AT THE MOST.. so lifting it and putting it to the side, taking 5 seconds to lift it, is actually doable for most. I am 41, 5,8, average build... so U get an idea. Size matters in this point also.
3) I set it up. SPRINKLED (very little) of his current, used litter over the top and set it down. As SOON as I put it down, he wanted to know what it was. I grabbed him, put him inside and he just sniffed around a bit and got out. That was it. 10 min later, it was christened. I didn’t even set the old one next to it for reference. He just, knew.
BONUS:
If you look in my second picture, You will see the very little space that I gave him to access the litter box. To us, it may seem cramped but, they like to squeeze into places. The bonus is, very little of the actual “litter box” needs to be exposed. It can basically just be an actual “home decoration“ if it’s set just right... and with a little ingenuity, it can be made to look like a more costly/classy purchase and decoration option, which is really the point.
Smart purchase: A+ for its price.
Very happy with my purchase! I was t a big fan of the plastic look so I painted it with rustoleum “pebble” stone spray paint. I also thought the plant looked a little too fake, so I purchased some plastic succulents to use instead. Great base to customize how you’d like! 👍
Only docked a star because the lid is a bit awkward.
